SCL History

Silicon Cert Laboratories (SCL), incorporated as Silicon Cert, Ltd. in 1998, was founded by a group of former AT&T Microelectronics/Lucent Technologies/Bell Labs engineers who had spent their technical careers in all areas of integrated circuit and optoelectronic component design, manufacturing, testing, and quality.

Due to AT&T’s mid-1997 sale of its undersea cable division to Tyco International, a need arose to relocate the component testing equipment to another facility. Having experience in conducting these rigorous and demanding certification tests, Silicon Cert Laboratories was formed to continue this testing on behalf of Tyco International.

Expansion first occurred in 1999 to meet Tyco’s request to repair land-based circuit packs. SCL remains one of only two companies with the expertise to perform these repairs. A second expansion took place in 2001 to accommodate a need for additional floor space for facilities as a result of widening the scope of test and analytical services offerings. In mid-2008 a third expansion was completed with ever-increasing business opportunities.

As a result of our AT&T/Lucent heritage and our fundamental interest in quality, Silicon Cert Laboratories’ quality management system first led to achieving ISO certification in 2000. SCL is currently registered through DNV as being certified to ISO 9001:2008. Additionally, the Defense Supply Center, Columbus (DSCC) approved SCL in 2007 to conduct testing for multiple MIL-STD-883 test methods.

In 2009, Silicon Cert Laboratories was accredited by A2LA (the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation) to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 to perform a wide variety of reliability tests.
